- Do you think its the HW or software fault that in practice the data
- rate is not = to the 'audio' rate. I'm sure sony made some effort to
- get good rate from their drive, specially if they bothered to inlcude
- a realtime video decompressor.
- Well, ok maybe an extra meg to load, but maybe the total 3meg are
- compressed to 2 meg or less. The R3000 could decompress faster then
- the CDrom can feed it.

- : See Ridge Racer with the intro play of Galaxian (if you can complete the

- : with the intro play of Galaga (which you can play up to six levels of if
- : you want, allowing you to play as bosses if you complete them).
-
- I dont remember how long this game took to load but it seem longer then 6
- seconds...

- : They also go on about some magic 5-10x compression on the cartridges, as
- : if they are going to get that on code or world data, and as if they are
- : going to have all that RAM to decompress into... Big ROMs are for arcade
- : machines only which need to be rather more sturdy than a delicate CD-ROM
- : drive would allow.
-
- This mean the same technologie applied to cdrom = 10x the speed of the
- incoming data... so a 3meg second flow of data... would be cool to load
- a game in under 1 second from cdrom ;)
- But in a way the PSX offer better then 10x compression with the video
- decoder...
